Target Giveaway and Classroom Makeover Update

Thought of a Third Grade Teacher is having a 200 follower giveaway!  You could win a $25 Target gift card.  It ends soon so check it out.

I went out to the school for the first time in two weeks.  Sadly, I did not get much accomplished.  I feel like I spend the majority of my summer workdays standing in my classroom and just looking around. Does anyone else do this?  I did put some more organizer units in my room so my kids can have access to supplies and I got those labeled.  My next goal is reorganize my classroom library and label all my books.  I am open to any and all suggestions about making my classroom library kid friendly!

  1. Hey Katie,
I'm also a 4th grade teacher. We have cubbies in our classrooms (can't move them) so I take advantage and have made labels (Magic Tree House, Diary of a Wimpy Kid...) and gotten cute bins from Dollar Tree. This usually helps the kids track things down and help keep it all organized. I also have bigger bins labeled (poetry, biographies, Ocean animals, .....) If I can remember where I saved them all (teehee) I'll post them on my blog:) I also attempted to put A.R. points on all books (still in progress).

  2. I just found your blog (and just started my own) but after moving up to 3rd grade from years in pre-K I am reworking my classroom library too. Have you seen the shelves made out of waterspouts? http://raisingolives.com/2009/07/raingutter-book-shelves-tutorial/ I am planning on adding them to my room, just now sure where exactly yet!
