Calling all 3rd grade teachers...

I have news to share with y'all.  I am officially moving to 3rd grade after four years in 4th.  Even though this means I will not be teaching next door to my good friend Brooke anymore, I am excited about the new challenge.  I will be moving to a new classroom and trying to figure out how to arrange everything and what colors to put with the green walls and yellow floors.  Ekk!  I will post pictures of my new room as soon as I can so be on the lookout for those!
Alright my 3rd grade teaching friends, any advice for me? Oh and what are your favorite read alouds or novel studies?

  1. \you will love Grade 3!
My fav. read alouds have been kate DiCamillo's books:
    Because of Winn Dixie
The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane
    Tale of Desperaux
next year I will be teaching gr. 2/3 - quite a switch after 15 years of Gr. 3

  2. Welcome to 3rd Grade! I love teaching and reading Charlotte's Web. It is my favorite and the students love it!!! If you have a chance, come and check out my blog.
    Third Grade Love

  3. I taught fifth grade for 11 years. Then I moved to third grade (my choice) for 5 years. Last year I looped up to fourth with my class. I loved the looping, but didn't enjoy fourth as much as I had fifth or third. Our school does Battle of the Books and I use those books for my read alouds throughout the year. It gets me reading new books (and a few old favorites) occasionally. I, too, also like Because of Winn Dixie. I read the book and then show the movie, and we do a compare/contast activity on them.

  4. I taught fourth grade for four years and am now teaching third also. I just started blogging, and googled third grade blogspots, and this post popped up! :) I hope that your year has started off well! I am really loving third grade!
